Congratulations are in order for our newly crowned Senior Miss Mayfield 2006, Anika Learmouth.

Anika has written the following...

I am grateful for this opportunity to introduce myself, Anika Learmouth, as “Miss Mayfield 2006” not only to the people of Mayfield, but to those in its neighbouring suburbs.

In August I won the “Miss Mayfield” competition, and through this I met many young women who are part of the vibrant community of Mayfield. I want to congratulate everyone who was a part of the competition – it was truly an impressive bunch of girls who marvellously represented the suburb of Mayfield which is so close to them. May I also thank the Mayfield Mainstreet Committee and the many sponsors, who were all so generous, including my own – White Lady Funerals. Also the wonderful Shirley from Pash on Victoria who introduced me to the competition and spent many hours organising and promoting the event.

Mayfield is a positive community which embraces challenges and actively works towards improvement and solutions. I am excited to be a part of such an empowering process – a community taking control of its present and future.

Now taking on the role of Secretary of the Mayfield Youth Committee, I look forward to furthering my involvement with the community of Mayfield.

I attended Music N Mayfield, an event held in Dangar Park on the 14th October, which was organised by The Loft in conjunction with Mayfield Youth. Though the very hot day undoubtedly kept some people from coming, for those who braved the heat it was an enjoyable afternoon of entertainment by talented local youth. Further events for youth (and by youth) are planned to take place over the course of the year coming.

The Youth Committee is comprised of people of all ages, who are working to plan events and create opportunities for young people in Mayfield. We welcome new ideas, perspectives and faces!

Last but not least a special thankyou to Julianna Heigh- Miss Mayfield 2005. Julianna has assisted the mainstreet committee to grow the role of Miss Mayfield into the future... She has supported the committee through her views as a young person growing up and living in mayfield and gladly offered her assistance at Mayfield's local events, Miss Mayfield 2005- Julianna Heigh whilst not in region for 2006 will be working with other committed young people to establish the Mayfield Youth committee and increase the skills of young people in the suburb.

Heat Two whilst a smaller event - offered the crowd a glimpse of the quality of the contestants vying for Junior Miss Mayfield - the judges where suitably impressed and as their was only 4 contestants due to sickness and last minute drop outs all four will automatically go forward in to the grand final...

Heat Three will be held on the 14th for Senior Miss Mayfield with 6 confirmed attendees....

Off and Running…
Over 70 people celebrated the first heat of Miss Mayfield 2006 at the Mayfield Ex-Services Club on Friday the 30thJune.
Nominees included:
Kara Thorley, Michelle Pendrick, Kristy Nicol, Dejana Dardevic, Bonnie Jane McCorriston, Kate McAlpine. The first heat was hotly contested, with judges awarding the following three nominees the opportunity to go through to the final

An added bonus to the Heats this year is a Hair Show from Ann’s Hair Lounge Maitland Rd,
Mayfield. Ann and her Team also announced on the evening their very own Extreme Make Over with a local lady being selected to complete this very special hair, makeup, body and fashion makeover…The unveiling will happen on the Final of Miss Mayfield 2006!

Heats two through to five will be held on the next four Friday evenings with Junior Miss Mayfield first and second heats held on the 7th July and 21st July. Senior Miss Mayfield’s second heat on the 14th July and the final heat being a mixture of Junior Miss and Senior Miss on the 28th July.

The gala final evening will be in the style of Cabaret, including a sit down three course meal, entertainment, dance and hair show…

Are You Jnr Miss or Ms Mayfield 2006?

After the success of Miss Mayfield 2005, the Mayfield Mainstreet committee is once again on the look out for Miss Mayfield 2006 with a new category being added due to popular demand, Junior Miss Mayfield 2006.

The Miss Mayfield Committee has been working hard and have so far secured $5000 of cash and prizes including two $250 Newcastle Permanent Rapid Saver Accounts, trip for two, Best Western Accommodation Packages, Three months at Curves, Hair and Beauty Prizes, Dinner for two, Fashion Gift Vouchers and much much more… the businesses of Mayfield have thrown their support behind this great promotion of young people in the suburb! Heats and the grand final will be held at a larger venue this year kindly supported by the Mayfield Ex-services Club.
The Grand Final will be a Cocktail Evening style event with a sit down meal and entertainment. Tickets will be on sale for this event on the 1st of July 2006 with limited seat available.
Nominations are now open, if you are well-groomed, well-spoken and live, work, shop, go to school or have family connections to Mayfield then why not be apart of Mayfield’s Gala Event of the Year.
There are two categories Miss Mayfield: a person between the ages of 18-35 years, who lives, works or has family ties to Mayfield.
Junior Miss Mayfield: a young person between the ages of 13-18 years who lives, works, goes to school or has family ties to Mayfield.
Miss Mayfield and Junior Miss Mayfield involve a variety of judging criteria’s. Judges will consider appearance, confidence, outlook on life, achievements, deportment, grooming and public speaking skills. The winners will be expected to attend at least 4 meetings in Mayfield in 2006 as well as be involved in events and public speaking opportunities as they arise. Participation in local community event may be required as well.
In each heat all entrants will be asked to model two outfits, one to depict a favourite sport and the other a formal/semi formal outfit as well as make a two minute speech on their connection with Mayfield and their aims in life.

All finalists where fantastic on the evening with the final three being decided within a whisker of points of each other.

The Mayfield Mainstreet Committee was approached by local business person Shirley from Pash on Victoria to "re- live" some of the elegance and natural beauty of Mayfield and revive the Mayfield Spring Fair - Miss Mayfield event....

The Mayfield Mainstreet Committee put out the call to previous Miss Mayfield from the Mayfield Spring Fair Days... a number of previous Mayfield Queens where happy to be involved and take part in the event - a great connection to the grand history of Mayfield...
